Safari for windows is almost unusable
I had installed safari the day it came out and every once in a while at start up I am greeted with a message asking me to update Itunes, Safari and Bonjour. So after a hiatus I started to used Safari again and after an hour I realized just how bad it actually is. It seems to perform OK on a mac but on windows the browser is a disaster. For development I am using an embedded jetty server with grails 1.0.3 and the response from localhost:8080 was by orders of magnitude slower than other browsers. The same pages load almost instantaneously on firefox and chrome.
I don’t know know the internals of safari is, but if Mr. Jobs expects users on windows to stop using IE and other alternatives for Safari, I am very sorry but I am sure he will be disappointed. I will give Apple the benefit of doubt, I am guessing its the internals of integrating and getting it working with windows that is causing the browser to behave so clumsy, the browser behaves better on OSX. The question is why waste the effort on trying to port the browser to windows? There are fantastic open source alternatives. Opera, Firefox and IMO the best one - chrome. (Firefox lost the first place for me with firefox 3 which is noticibly slower to load and with the recent update hangs intermittently, but firebug makes firefox indispensable). Safari is a complete waste of effort and a very poorly done - I expected better from Apple.

Actually there were some bugs in the Safari for Windows initially. Apple had recieved lots of similar type of problems from a numer of users but now all the issues are fixed. Try the latest Safari for Windows, i hope you won’t left disappointed this time.
